Microsoft Hyper-V Microsoft Hyper-V is a new entrant to the cloud technology marketplace. Microsoft initially had a relatively weak virtualisation technology in Virtual Server 2005. This didn’t use virtualisation extensions in modern CPUs, and so was slow, and had no useful management capabilities.
Hyper-V came at the same time as Windows Server 2008, and in the R2 (Second release) version of the product Microsoft delivered a strong technology. We recommend Hyper-V for private clouds where the majority of the servers are running Windows Server 2003/2008 operating systems, and Hyper-V includes live migration and failover technologies.
